2002 white and blue match reports

U 11 Match Naas Yellow Major 1

The first quarter started off with Kilcock on the offensive. There were early attacks coming down both flanks but Tom McMahon and Lucas Florian were equal to them. Daragh Prizeman went on a darting run carrying the ball some 40 yards before the ball was cleared into the path of the Kilcock No. 12. With only the keeper to beat he made no mistake and put Kilcock into an early lead. Naas pushed hard for an equaliser with Jude Sinclair and Alex Murphy both going close with long range efforts. James McGuiness made a string of top quality saves to keep Naas in the match but he was helpless to stop a looping shot that went high into the top of the goal by the Kilcock No. 5

Kilcock again pushed hard and were awarded a penalty early in the second quarter as James Williamson tried to block a shot and the ball rebounded off his arm, on another day it would have gone unpunished. The following penalty hit the crossbar and was cleared by Naas. Luke Brereton played a lovely weighted ball into the path of the advancing Jude Sinclair but his shot was turned around the post by the Kilcock keeper. Kilcock were awarded a free kick 15 yards out that was hit with venom by the big no. 14 but joint man of the match James McGuiness was equal to it, however when the ball fell to the ground it was the boot of the Kilcock No. 2 that poked the ball home for another goal. The away team were in full flow now and were advancing on the Naas goal at every attack. If it wasn't for the heroics of both Tom McMahon and James McGuiness they would have been in double figures by now. Both were helpless to stop the no. 12 from hitting the net with a stunning drive from just inside the box.

Jack Molloy was added to the team in the second quarter and his experience in midfield told straight away. He showed why he is highly regarded by the management in Naas with some lovely weighted passes and fine movement. Kilcock had another corner but it was cleared by James Williamson who seemed to be everywhere. James popped up in the opponent's box and the keeper had to be very alert in order to push his shot around the post. James McGuiness pulled off another world class save at the end of the quarter to deny the Kilcock no. 4 from scoring another goal.

The Naas management made a few changes in the last quarter when the game was long lost and McGuiness was put up front with Prizeman going in goal. Florian played a great pass to  Molloy who beat 2 midfield players and put the ball in the path of Murphy but his shot went inches wide. Florian was coming into his own with good clearances at the back and set up Brereton to run at the Kilcock defence. Kilcock scored another 2 late goals to rub salt into the Naas wounds however the Naas team showed real character by not letting the score get to them. Their passing and movement off the ball was excellent and it is only a matter of time before they click.

Their management must be very proud of the way they kept helping each other and it was a joy to watch.
